Cannabis industry members aren’t the only ones making money from medical cannabis. In the last ten years, fees to open a medical cannabis dispensary have skyrocketed. In 2007, New Mexico became the first state the explicitly allow medical cannabis dispensaries (they were open throughout California before then, but most of them were unlicensed). New Mexico’s fee? $1,000.
