A new Library of Congress report on global hemp.
A group of researchers with the Library of Congress (LOC) published a whopping 137-page report titled Regulation of Hemp that looks at more than a dozen countries, including, for example, Brazil, India, Mexico, and New Zealand.
While the report was published in November, lead author Tariq Ahmad published a post about it this week on the LOC’s blog.
It’s one of the most in-depth resources we’ve seen on how different countries treat hemp and its cannabinoids like CBD. And, the “comparative summary” of different country approaches at the top is quite useful, as is the appendix that lists details about different countries in a bite-sized format.
Trulieve really, really wants legal cannabis in Florida.
The company has already given $25.5 million to Smart & Safe Florida as it works toward getting adult use on the ballot in 2024.
For comparison, that’s about how much was raised in total to get adult use on the ballot and passed in California, the most populous state in the U.S. And that money came from a variety of sources, like MPP, DPA, Sean Parker (Napster founder and first Facebook president), and the late Daniel Lewis, founder of Progressive Insurance.
In Florida, it’s just one company putting in that amount. And it’s no coincidence that Trulieve has a bigger footprint than any other cannabis company in Florida. It’s poised to dominate adult use, too, when it becomes legal.
Linneo wins supply contract in Italy.
The company got started in Spain in 2016 and has for years been supplying patients in Germany. Now, it has won a contract with Italy’s government to supply patients there, too.
While Italy has a unique arrangement in which its military has oversight over medical cannabis production, it has contracted with a couple of companies over the years, like Aurora Cannabis, for imported supply.
The contract is for the “supply of cannabis inflorescences for medical use.” Specifically, the “supply of an estimated quantity of 530 kilograms of dry inflorescence cannabis with a high THC content” for the price of 1,590,000 euros.
